There are 8 major sun holidays known as Sabbats
Witches in the north celebrate Esbat, celebrations of the full and new moon:
1. Samhain – Celebrated at the beginning and end of the year. The veil between the real world and the spiritual world is the thinnest
2. Yule – Winter solstice, usually between December 20-23 and it represents the birth of the god Lugh
3. Imbolc – The height of winter, usually at the beginning of February and it represents a time of transformation from old to new.
4. Ostara – The spring equinox, usually between March 20-23 and it represents a time of fertility, new growth, new births and the days and nights are equal
5. Beltane – The height of spring, occurs the first day of May. Considered a major fertility fesitval
6. Litha – The summer solstice, usually between June 20-23 where the sun provides for the longest day
7. Lammas or Lughnassadh– The height of the summer, occurs on August 1 where the first harvest is celebrated
8. Mabon – The fall equinox, occurs between September 20-23 where the second harvest is celebrated and the days and nights are equal
